UDIST→ Bad Eyesight Typewriter

Bad Eyesight Typewriter is an online typewriter that plays with abstraction of typeface with pixelation and the type size. It forces the user to be at an appropiate distance from the screen in order to read the text.

How to use:

Start typing any words and follow the instructions on the screen which will guide you to move closer.

The closer you move towards the screen, the bigger the text gets but it simultaneously becomes more abstract and pixelated.

Initially, this project was planned to be built by coding each individual letters and its 3 different variations.

With the help of my professors, I was able to just code the initial form of each alphabets and then transform it using a line of code that turns pixels on and off.

The code also took transformation from having a posenet video in the background to a simple flat colour background. This decision minimizes the distraction and emphasizes on the impracticality of this typewriter.

At one point I considered changing the matrix form of the letters to imitate an eyesight chart. Nevertheless, with user testing, I realized this matrix excessively reduced the readability of the program.
